Quality compressed air for high-tech products - Industrial IoT Case Study
Quality compressed air for high-tech products
When it came to modernisation of the existing compressed air station, the company’s management decided to opt for a compressed air contracting arrangement to ensure that the compressed air supply would always meet the latest technical standards and be capable of taking advantage of the benefits that Industry 4.0 has to offer – and not least due to the frequent fluctuations in demand in the automotive supplier industry. In this operator model, the compressed air station itself remains the property of the air system provider, whilst the customer simply uses the compressed air as needed, just like power from an electrical socket, paying only for the volume of compressed air actually used – and always at the same fixed rate. From an accounting perspective, this effectively turns fixed costs into variable costs. At Scholz, the new station was installed in a space-saving container on the roof of the company building.

Digital transformation - Retrofitting for ... coffee machines?
The original idea was about finding an easy yet effective way to demonstrate how Industrial Internet of Things can disclose amazing opportunities about networking, devices and data management. The main objective of this nerdy project was clearly to showcase how Endian solutions could be integrated with an industrial environment made up of machinery and PLCs.To achieve our goal we needed a mini-factory, which could show in real-time both a whole production process, and Endian integration with the data provided by the mini-factory itself.

MasterCard Improves Customer Experience Through Self-Service Data Prep - Industrial IoT Case Study
MasterCard Improves Customer Experience Through Self-Service Data Prep
Derek Madison, Leader of Business Financial Support at MasterCard, oversees the validation of transactions and cash between two systems, whether they’re MasterCard owned or not. He was charged with identifying new ways to increase efficiency and improve MasterCard processes. At the outset, the 13-person team had to manually reconcile system interfaces using reports that resided on the company’s mainframe. Their first order of business each day was to print 20-30 individual, multi-page reports. Using a ruler to keep their place within each report, they would then hand-key the relevant data, line by line, into Excel for validation. “We’re talking about a task that took 40-80 hours each week,” recalls Madison, “As a growing company with rapidly expanding product offerings, we had to find a better way to prepare this data for analysis.”

Maximizing Clinical Availability and Performance with System Connectivity - PTC Industrial IoT Case Study
Maximizing Clinical Availability and Performance with System Connectivity
PTC
For over 30 years Elekta has been responsible for introducing many market leading, critical technological advances in radiation oncology. Elekta’s Linear Accelerators support a range of pre-configured and optional delivery techniques, providing the physician with the flexibility to tailor the treatment to suit the needs of each individual patient. Remote access was unavailable on complex devices and Elekta was unable to understand machine performance based on real data, which meant the company could not respond immediately to customer problems. This, in turn, meant that Elekta was unable to detect and solve problems on the spot, restricting the company to a reactive service model. A typical patient treatment schedule could require daily treatment for a period of 4-6 weeks, making machine uptime extremely important. Given the complexity of the device and the amount of data that would need to be collected, it was obvious that an automated solution was required. The infrastructure would need the ability to manage the data volume from the devices and also provide a platform that would scale in both size and complexity. “When a customer buys a service agreement, what they are buying is system uptime. They are buying the ability to consistently deliver treatment… patient to patient,” says Martin Gilday, Vice President of Services at Elekta. “Service is not simply a single engineer with a trunk load of parts, but a full portfolio of technical expertise delivered via multiple channels...it’s a big change in the way that you think about service.” Elekta’s success has been built upon innovative engineering, which led to a culture of in-house work. As the company matured and grew, it realized that this was not necessarily the most effective way of working. With the complexity of the product itself, internal engineering expertise would be crucial to solve the company’s service challenges. While the product itself was unique, the methodologies and best practices of accessing and servicing the product were based on industry standards. When customers have service issues that need to be resolved, machine data must be collected and interpreted, and engineers need a deep level of skills and understanding. An integrated solution that brought the data, knowledge, and skills together in a highly connected environment was required. “Customers see connectivity as providing efficiency gains,” says Bruce Fullerton, Vice President of Service and Support. “Their key performance indicators are based around how many customers they can treat in a given space of time.”

Imperial Vending IoT Solution - USA Technologies Industrial IoT Case Study
Imperial Vending IoT Solution
Imperial Vending has earned a reputation for outstanding service and quality and is always on the lookout for new ways to enhance this brand image. The company has used technology to improve service excellence since entering the vending business in the early 90’s. Handheld route systems, for instance, have helped Imperial Vending closely monitor customer consumption profiles and maintain transparent and accurate reporting for customer commissions. Another key reason to move to wireless technology was to improve operational efficiency. Imperial Vending had already attempted another solution for advance assembly of delivery orders, a technique known in the industry as pre-kitting. However, Imperial Vending found that their pre-kits were often significantly inaccurate because of unpredictable variations in account sales. While this early test of pre-kitting helped get drivers on their way from the warehouse more quickly, it did little to help with route efficiency and keeping fresh products in customer vending machines.

Creating an Agile Environment to Drive Growth in the IoT - Industrial IoT Case Study
Creating an Agile Environment to Drive Growth in the IoT
Numerex needed to provide innovative products and service offerings and adapt to the explosive growth in the IoT/M2M ecosystem. As Numerex was transforming into delivering on-demand offerings to its wide range of markets, they realized their back office systems weren’t capable of providing flexible feature sets, critical to helping turn up new product catalogue configurations to close deals and better manage service offerings. An example of this needed flexibility would allow a Numerex customer to buy devices in bulk yet only pay for those that actively use data on the network. Their systems required significant development efforts to introduce new service offerings such as this. They had segregated billing systems that didn’t scale for high volume processing requirements. Numerex was also growing via M&As, which brought the additional challenges of outdated technologies and a variety of disparate billing systems that didn’t talk to each other, resulting in complex operational expenditures and integration requirements. It became so dire that Numerex was forced to implement manual billing processes for certain lines of business.

Sensor Synergy Case Study
Whether sensors are stand-alone, connected to PLCs, interfaced to PCs or tied directly to networks, these devices can be found in a multitude of electronics that affect daily life – from washing machines to windshield wiper blades. Although there are a number of ways to add sensor data to a system, designers and users want to keep the sensor-to-system interface process as easy as possible, and, in many cases, users want this information to be accessible via the Internet. In recent years, the IEEE’s (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering) approval of multiple standards, coupled with the increase of factory automation suppliers differentiating themselves by developing different communications protocols, has resulted in over 50 different hardware and software interface protocols. What initially was an opportunity for factory automation suppliers to provide enhanced new features to their customers has become a challenge for sensor manufacturers. It is increasingly difficult to develop sensor solutions that will interface with all applicable protocols. To help alleviate this problem, smart sensor technology pioneer, Sensor Synergy, developed a near-universal sensor-to-Internet solution utilizing Lantronix Device Networking technologies.

AWS Migration
Due to its ever increasing customers and connections Wyless required more scalability and efficiency but definitely at a cheaper cost. Usage records & calculations for more than 2 million connections does not reside in gigabyte of space, it requires terabytes of space. Where connectivity is the key to your success or failure in business, you don’t want your machines to be responsible for slow response. Wyless had all of its servers managed at another hosting. Ex-Hosting became non-scalable to support the ever-expanding needs of expansion Wyless required. But moving instance from Ex-hosting was the biggest challenge. Wyless had issues of stability, network availability, scalability & OS. Resulting in not able to scale up the resources like Disk, CPU and Ram without incurring downtime.
