Siemens Building Technologies Division

About The Customer
Siemens Building Technologies Division, based in Zug, Switzerland, is a world leader in the market for safe, secure, energy-efficient, and environment-friendly buildings and infrastructures. They offer solutions for safety and security, building automation, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), and energy management. As a systems business, they sell their customers a complete package of hardware, controls, and software. They were seeing a transition where more and more of the value add was coming from software and services.
The Challenge
Siemens Building Technologies Division, a global leader in creating safe, energy-efficient, and environment-friendly buildings and infrastructures, was facing a challenge to make software a more integral part of their business. They were looking to create new revenue streams, improve visibility and reporting, and standardize their licensing technology. The company's buildings are comprised of sophisticated systems controlling everything from HVAC to security and fire protection. As every building is unique, so are the systems that orchestrate these functions. This led Siemens to search for a standardized licensing technology that would enable them to monetize all software and improve the licensing and order process, as well as the customer experience.
The Solution
Siemens Building Technologies Division decided to implement a single software monetization platform and automate processes through ERP integration. They chose to partner with Revenera and implement their Software Monetization Platform. This platform provided a consistent and harmonized licensing platform to manage software licenses and helped Siemens figure out how to run a software business. The License Management System provided complete integration between Revenera’s FlexNet Operations backoffice entitlement management system and Siemens' instances of ERP and their BI system. This solution eliminated the need to ship hardware dongles to customers, simplifying the ordering process and eliminating manual processes. It also enabled Siemens to adopt new business and licensing models when selling software and services to customers.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of Revenera’s Software Monetization Platform has brought significant operational benefits to Siemens Building Technologies Division. The assurance that all software is protected and monetized with standard licensing technology has improved their business efficiency. The automation of operating and ordering processes has streamlined their operations, eliminating the need for manual processes and simplifying the ordering process. The ability to adopt new business and licensing models has provided them with the flexibility to adapt to market changes and customer needs. Looking forward, Siemens plans to leverage this platform to address the growing Internet of Things monetization requirements and offer new models like pay-for-use and software as a service.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Standardized licensing technology across all software
  • Automated operating and ordering processes
  • Adoption of new business and licensing models
