About The Customer
UNI-INTERACT primarily serves university students who are learning languages. These students have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with many having their study abroad plans cancelled. This has limited their opportunities to practice and improve their language skills through interaction with native speakers and international students. UNI-INTERACT provides these students with a platform to connect with other students from around the world, allowing them to continue their language learning journey despite the pandemic. The app has already attracted students from various countries, including the U.S., Spain, and France.
The Challenge
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the traditional learning environment, particularly for university students studying languages. Many students had their study abroad plans cancelled, which significantly impacted their language learning experience. The lack of interaction with native speakers and international students has made it difficult for these students to practice and improve their language skills. The founders of UNI-INTERACT, Wakana Kumagawa, Miyu Kondo, and Hideaki Iwata, identified this challenge and sought to create a solution that would allow students to continue their language learning journey despite the pandemic.
The Solution
The founders developed UNI-INTERACT, an online community that allows university students learning languages to interact and meet each other. The app was built using Bubble, a no-code platform, which made the process of building the website simple and fast. Through UNI-INTERACT, students can find language exchange partners, schedule video calls through Zoom, get their writing corrected by native speakers, and post materials that they recommend for other language learners. The app also offers social events and proofreading services. The founders plan to expand the app's functionality to include services for studying abroad and internships, and even finding host families once studying abroad becomes possible again.
Operational Impact
  • The creation of UNI-INTERACT has provided a much-needed solution for university students learning languages during the pandemic. The app has enabled these students to continue their language learning journey by providing them with opportunities to interact with other students from around the world. This has not only helped them practice and improve their language skills, but also fostered a sense of community among the users. The use of a no-code platform for development has also demonstrated the potential of such platforms in quickly and efficiently addressing emerging challenges.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Launched just a month ago, UNI-INTERACT has already attracted students from various countries, including the U.S., Spain, and France.
  • The app was built using a no-code platform, significantly reducing the time and resources required for development.
  • UNI-INTERACT offers a range of services, including language exchange partnerships, social events, and proofreading services, providing a comprehensive solution for language learners.
