The Challenge
Transition Technologies, a Poland-based provider of advanced solutions for the energy, gas, industry 4.0, and bioinformatics markets, faced a significant challenge when a customer requested to use their flagship product, LUXtrade, in the cloud. The company had been implementing LUXtrade on-premises in Europe for almost 20 years and had recently started delivering it as software-as-a-service. However, the request for a cloud-based solution required Transition Technologies to deploy a cloud solution in just six months. This was a daunting task given the complex nature of LUXtrade, which includes features for RES management, algo-trading, forecasting, and data analytics. The company was confident in its ability to meet these targets with Oracle technology, but the short timeline for cloud deployment presented a significant challenge.
The Solution
Transition Technologies, having used Oracle Database and complementary technologies like Oracle RAC and Oracle Data Guard for over 20 years, decided to adopt Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Oracle Standard Database Service. This move was aimed at making the company’s applications available in the SaaS model. OCI was chosen for its high performance, ease of management, and significant cost savings compared to traditional on-premises infrastructure. Additionally, Oracle offered a range of security services, including Oracle Vulnerability Scanning Service, Oracle Threat Intelligence Service, Oracle Web Application Firewall, Oracle Cloud Guard, and Oracle Data Safe. These services were utilized by Transition Technologies for data and infrastructure security, ensuring a secure transition to the cloud.
Operational Impact
  • The adoption of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure brought about significant operational improvements for Transition Technologies. The company can now quickly deploy a demo version or a prototype of LUXtrade, allowing them to demonstrate the benefits of their system before the actual installation of their modules. This has made it easier and faster to showcase the capabilities and benefits of LUXtrade to prospective customers. Additionally, security has been enhanced with OCI, as the services are always up-to-date and maintain complete separation between each customer’s deployments, thereby helping to protect data privacy.
