About The Customer
Animales sin Hogar (ASH) is a non-profit organization based in Uruguay, dedicated to promoting the adoption and responsible ownership of pets, and animal welfare in general. Founded in 2003, the organization has been working tirelessly to ensure the well-being of animals, particularly those that are homeless or in need of care. ASH's staff consists of volunteers who are passionate about animal welfare. The organization had initially set up a web app to enable people to post notices about lost pets or animals in need of adoption. However, as the organization grew, so did its needs, leading to the development of a more comprehensive management system.
The Challenge
Animales sin Hogar (ASH), a non-profit organization based in Uruguay, was founded in 2003 with the aim of promoting the adoption and responsible ownership of pets, and animal welfare in general. A year after its inception, ASH developed a web app using GeneXus technology, primarily to enable people to post notices about lost pets or animals in need of adoption. However, as the organization grew, so did its needs. ASH required a more comprehensive system that could keep records, manage, and define the traceability of the animals, their treatments, adoptions, and follow-ups. The organization also wanted to create a space for posts related to different aspects of animal well-being. The challenge was to expand the existing solution and develop a management system that could handle all the data related to the animals.
The Solution
To address these challenges, ASH collaborated with DVelop to work on a mobile app and migrate the system to the latest version of GeneXus. The new system was designed to publish, share, and make known information about stray animals. The new ASH web system had a backend containing information on 6,000 animals, including their entry date, vaccines, castration, and the identity of those who left them there or those who adopted them. The system was also capable of managing the animals' locations and location changes, associating treatments received by each animal, managing them per individual animals and in relation to veterinarians, and managing adoption applications, visits, adoptions, and follow-ups. The system also allowed users to post publications, share their own or others' publications on social networks, view all other publications, enter requests for adoptions, and view their posts, their adoption applications, and adoptions processed.
Operational Impact
  • The new ASH web system has significantly improved the organization's operations. It has provided a comprehensive solution for managing the data related to all the animals, thereby enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization's work. The system's ability to keep records, manage, and define the traceability of the animals, their treatments, adoptions, and follow-ups has streamlined the organization's processes. Furthermore, the system has created a space for posts related to different aspects of animal well-being, fostering a sense of community and promoting responsible pet ownership. The system's functionalities have also made it easier for users to interact with the organization and participate in its mission.
Quantitative Benefit
  • The new system contains information on 6,000 animals, 2,000 of which live on the premises of ASH.
  • The system allows for the management of the animals' locations and location changes.
  • The system enables the association of treatments received by each animal, managing them per individual animals and in relation to veterinarians.
