The Challenge
Horizon Software, a global software company with over 100 customers across 26 countries, was facing challenges in measuring and reducing its carbon footprint. The company, which is a pioneer in the financial markets industry, was keen on integrating social and environmental objectives into its business model and operations. As part of its commitment to its employees, suppliers, and customers, Horizon Software was seeking to obtain B Corp certification, which requires the implementation of good practices adapted to the company's sector of activity. However, the company was struggling with the first and most important step of any issue in a company - measuring and defining it. Horizon Software had already initiated a few projects on recycling, building insulation, bicycle bonuses, etc., but it wanted to go further in a pragmatic way with the CO2 equivalent indicator.
The Solution
Horizon Software turned to Greenly for a solution to its challenge. Greenly's software automated the data collection process, making the computation of Horizon Software's carbon footprint effective and pragmatic. The software provided a clear understanding of the sources of emissions by type and category, and it was able to break down what the CO2 equivalent was through invoices. This allowed Horizon Software to act on its two main improvement levers: energy and suppliers. The company also used the software to raise awareness among its employees about environmental issues, with about 40% of them participating in the questionnaire. Furthermore, Horizon Software planned to continue to 'pollinate' its employees by getting them more involved and training them, especially with the help of the Planet Tech’ Care movement. The company also sought to maintain and improve its Green IT processes and promote its Low Carbon Managed Services offer for the hosting of its solution.
