The Challenge

On a typical sheep gathering session, 10-12 farmers face difficulties finding all their animals. The implication is that both animal and farmer may have to stay out for longer than necessary. When there is heavy snow, this compounds the problems and the cold induces distress upon both farmer and animal.

About The Customer
Norwegian farmers who rear livestock.
The Solution

Telia Norway and start-up Nortrace equipped 1,000 sheep with collars with tracking modules in order for the solution to be effective. Narrowband IoT technology was used to remotely track and monitor the animals.

Data Collected
Asset Location, Asset Status Tracking, GPS Tracking
Operational Impact
  • [Process Optimization - Real Time Monitoring]
The solution allows farmers to monitor the pinpoint position and well-being of their herd while they are grazing on the pastures.
  • [Cost Reduction - Operation]
Narrowband IoT technology has longer battery life and better coverage at a significantly lower prices which is ideal for operations of this nature.
