The Challenge

Automotive special-shaped parts (engine camshafts, crankshafts, automotive interior parts IP, ID and other components) are characterized by irregularities, and difficulties such as reflective curved surfaces cause machine vision intelligent detection problems. The development of intelligent detection technology for such products in China is relatively slow. 

At present, more than 90% of the special-shaped parts production enterprises still remain in the manual visual inspection method. However, manual visual inspection is slow in detecting complex defects and has poor reliability (such as manual visual inspection of camshafts, skilled quality inspectors need 2-3 minutes per piece).

The Solution

The intelligent inspection equipment for special-shaped parts developed in this project fills the domestic gap. It aims at replacing manual visual inspection (speed 55s/pcs) for surface defects of special-shaped metal parts of automobiles. The results are finally digitized and communicated with the production line in real-time.

Quantitative Benefit
  • The manipulator drives the camera to the reference position of each inspection point, and takes a photo after it is in place. By analyzing the features on the image, it can judge the wrong or missing installation of the instrument panel components. The rhythm is relatively short and the system stability is good.

    • Equipment efficiency: 35-55s/pcs (the detection point of different products will affect the detection takt time)
    • Missing detection rate: 0%
    • False positive rate: 5%
