About The Customer
MyTeam11 is a new global leader in the online fantasy sports market, offering a platform for sports like cricket, football (soccer), kabaddi, hockey, basketball, handball, volleyball, rugby, and baseball. The company ensures that each user gets benefits and rewards at the end of any contest. With more than 15 million users and set to double its current level of 25,000 operations per second, MyTeam11’s fantasy sports gaming platform has extremely unpredictable data loads. Its most popular fantasy sport is Cricket, and Cricket teams don’t post their roster until 30 minutes before the match starts, which creates peak loads as players rush to set their fantasy rosters.
The Challenge
MyTeam11, a global leader in the fantasy sports market, faced a significant challenge with its rapidly growing user base of over 15 million users. The company's fantasy sports gaming platform was experiencing extremely unpredictable data loads, set to double its current level of 25,000 operations per second. This was particularly evident in the 30 minutes leading up to a cricket match, when teams post their rosters and users rush to set their fantasy rosters, creating a last-minute surge in data traffic. The company needed a stable and fast database that could handle the elasticity of its data peaks and ensure seamless user experience.
The Solution
To address this challenge, MyTeam11 implemented Redis Cloud running on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure. This solution was capable of handling all of MyTeam11’s data for its 15 million users, maintaining real-time leaderboards, and providing authentication and session management. Redis Cloud's elastic scalability allowed MyTeam11 to handle the peak data loads that occurred in the 30 minutes leading up to a cricket match. This was a significant improvement over MyTeam11’s previous SQL database, which was unable to handle the load. Furthermore, as a fully managed service, Redis Cloud eliminated many operational headaches for the MyTeam11 team, freeing them to work on developing strategic greenfield applications.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of Redis Cloud on AWS infrastructure has brought significant operational benefits to MyTeam11. The team no longer needs to spend time and resources tweaking the SQL database, and instead can focus on developing strategic greenfield applications that help move the needle of the company’s core business. The switch to Redis Cloud has also improved the user experience on the platform, allowing users to seamlessly use the platform without experiencing interruptions or lag, even during peak data loads. This has helped MyTeam11 to handle seasonal data spikes without speed tradeoffs. The team at MyTeam11 is excited to expand its use cases for Redis Cloud.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Handled data for 15 million users
  • Maintained real-time leaderboards
  • Provided authentication and session management
