Software
Horizontal applications are standardized (e.g., asset tracking). Vertical applications are tailored to specific needs (e.g., delivery fleet management).
Middleware integrates the diverse components of an IoT application by structuring communication, workflows, and business rules.
IoT analytics includes real-time or edge computing and batch analysis. Analytics can be behavioral, descriptive, predictive, or prescriptive.
Visualization solutions use dashboards, alerts, events, maps, and other tools to present easily comprehensible data to end users.
Services
System integrators link IoT component subsystems, customize solutions, and ensure that IoT systems communicate with existing operational systems.
IoT data management consultancies help to make sense of big data, decide which data to maintain and for how long, and troubleshoot IT issues.

Intelligently Managed Business Processes (Belcher Industries)
Intelligently Managed Business Processes (Belcher Industries)
Belcher Industries can with right be classified as a high-risk business due to the nature of the work they perform. The risks include public liability and project risks including fixed cost, time penalties and product quality. Belcher experienced the following problems – often imposing serious risks for the business:• Belcher Industries are subjected to OSHA regulations. The absence of the necessary controls can result in penalties and increased premiums. Belcher wanted to ensure that the necessary controls are in place to contribute to a 100% no incident reputation. • Immediate productivity improvement in the workshop was a major objective. • Senior management often travels and improved control over task management and the ability to monitor work from off-site locations were high priorities. • Tasks were allocated to staff during meetings. These tasks disappeared from Meeting Minutes; they were often not performed within the time required; or they were misunderstood and the work performed was not according to specification. This resulted in additional labour and material cost as well as time lost. • Meetings were held with clients. Design specifications were agreed or decisions made, but there was no record of the supporting design documentation or the design agreements reached. This resulted in disputes with clients often to the detriment of Belcher. • Various registers are required to support ISO certification. Even though Belcher had all the registers in place the systems were islands and not integrated. • A key objective was to integrate the existing accounting system with the new solution. • The existing BelcherTrac system, that included only job control, quotes and purchase orders, became out-dated. Replacing this system with the XMPro driven BelcherTrac enabled them to integrate loose standing processes and registers into one solution.
Managing and Mitigating Risk
Managing and Mitigating Risk
Czarnikow is wholly reliant upon business information management to support its global operations. The combination of manual and unstructured office based processes lacked the control, clarity, efficiency, security and governance required within the business.Information flow across the business and its counter-parties was handled through custom spread sheets, email (both user mailboxes and Microsoft Exchange public folders), Word documents and specific business function systems such as Infor SunSystems FMS for accounting and Allegro for trading/shipping. A lack of flexible and compliant process management in trade registration, credit risk and counterparty on-boarding was leading to unacceptable levels of risk in day-to-day operations. This was increasingly threatening operational capability and failing to support the strategic growth plans of the business. The business issues included:• Too many manual, cumbersome processes with inconsistent hand-offs and duplication of data entry • Pre execution enforcement of internal compliance procedures, ensuring adherence to external regulations with improved reporting and transparency • Manual processes and retrospective visibility were leading to unacceptable levels of operational risk • Inability to delegate authority across the business due to insufficient auditability and control • Limited visibility and accessibility of real-time, accurate management information to inform business decisions • Lack of global standards in compliance processing
Public Sector (CLC)
Public Sector (CLC)
CLC heavily relied on manual paper-based systems to manage their mission-critical processes. As a result these processes were time consuming, invisible and unproductive driving the organisation to seek company specific process solutions. As Roger Barnes, Manager of CLC's mining activities notes, “The risks associated with this included the lack of integration with the data sets and tripping over statutory deadlines, so things that were supposed to happen at a certain time didn't always happen because we'd lose track of where they were at.” The vehicle booking process in particular required visibility as the organisation maintains more than 80 vehicles, each of which travels great distances per year. Understanding what kind of return the vehicles provided and at the same time managing occupational health and safety requirements were constant challenges for CLC.
