A lot has been written about the Industrial IoT (or “Industry 4.0”, as it’s called in Europe) and to many it seems another buzzword without any actual meaning. Indeed, it‘s very difficult to imagine its trillion dollar impact on the economy, many billions of connected devices, or billions of dollars to be spent on IIoT solutions by companies, without seeing actual examples. However, if we go down to a factory level, it all starts to make more sense. As we can read in a special report about Industrial IoT prepared by World Economic Forum and Accenture: “With the Industrial Internet, manufacturers are already using new software capabilities to improve operational efficiency through Predictive Maintenance, and achieving results such as savings on scheduled repairs (12%), reduced maintenance costs (nearly 30%) and fewer breakdowns (almost 70%)”. An “IIoT State of Initiative Survey Report” by Smart Industry (May 2015) indicates that the two top benefits driving the adoption of Industrial IoT are to optimize asset utilization and reduce operational cost. For any industrial plant (in manufacturing, oil & gas, energy, mining, etc.) to operate properly, hundreds of machines are needed to work on site. In short, they power key industrial processes by moving things around: air, water, raw materials, chemicals, or even the entire production line. These are mainly pumps, compressors, industrial fans, conveyor belts, etc. What they all have in common are electric motors that power them. Elmodis team has developed standard models of electricity flows for the most common industrial machines, formulating an integrated hardware and cloud based software solution that enables manufacturers and users of electric motors (EM) and EM-powered machines to remotely monitor performance of their equipment in real time, based only on electric parameters.
The proposed MES architecture is based on the Internet of Things (IoT), completely linking all resources and the manufacturing companies' security needs. Consequently, shop floor and IT clouds should be separated. In order for the machine level to reap benefits from cloud technologies, a specific modification known as the edge cloud or fog, was employed. The central instance, the Edge Gateway, connects the edge cloud with the IT cloud. Therefore, shop floor components can communicate with each other in real time and the IT cloud can retrieve and manage the data. IT support in production plays a key role for Integrated Industry (Industry 4.0). In order to cover future production processes new standards and functions are required, which will especially affect MES applications. MPDV introduces a concept for the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) of the future MES 4.0.

Overview & Value Proposition: L&T Technology Services delivers IoT applications across the lifecycle using home grown and third party frameworks, platforms and accelerators. We engage with our customers to contribute in their IoT and M2M strategies and roadmap; develop, deploy and commission business ready M2M applications; integrate these applications to enterprise or cloud; implement custom or commercially available IoT/M2M platforms; and enable sensing capabilities on their custom or off the shelf hardware. We aim to strengthen our position in digital engineering through investments in IoT, M2M and Smart Manufacturing technologies or through acquisitions in product software, Embedded Software and computing. We focus on building a portfolio of solutions-oriented engineering services that can be applied across verticals. As part of this strategy, we closely follow the technology trends in the ER&D industry and have focused on key technology areas that we believe will impact the various verticals in which we operate. These key technology areas include digital engineering, mobile internet, IoT (IIoT, mBIoT), automation of knowledge, advanced robotics, autonomous and near-autonomous vehicles, energy efficiency and imaging and video. For another customer, we provide smart services solutions in process improvement, waste reduction and improvement in yields. Our solutions are aimed at addressing specific problems by introducing advanced sensors and analytics technologies to detect anomalies at an early stage of production. As a result, our solutions enable reduction of the rejection rates of the products. IoT Labs We have entered into alliances with several IoT players. For example, we established a joint IoT lab with a global network solutions provider to explore opportunities in transportation, manufacturing and smart cities. We have set up a Smart Manufacturing lab has been set up to address difficulties faced by process and discrete manufacturing plants, as well as to develop and integrate intelligent automation solutions for Smart Manufacturing.
