Chettinad Cement recognized that further efficiencies could be achieved in its cement manufacturing process. It looked to investing in comprehensive operational and control technologies to manage and derive productivity and energy efficiency gains from the assets on Line 2, their second plant in India.
Chettinad Cement as part of Chettinad Group is a major supplier of cement in southern India.
Chettinad upgraded Line 2 control system to ABB System 800xA, including the latest human machine interface. Drives, motors and transmitters were also employed to ensure safety operation and optimal performance.

ABB gas analyzer was used to monitor product quality and nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx) and other gas components compliance. The Knowledge Manager solution was used to manage production and quality.
Real-time tracking of people and assets, pressure status, air quality
Mature (technology has been on the market for >5 years)
Energy Efficiency - The energy efficiency of production processes was improved, reducing production costs.
Installation Efficiency - Technicians are able to query instruments remotely during commissioning to confirm device functionality.
Remote Device Diagnostics - Real-time status reports enable maintenance personnel to remotely diagnose the status of a device.
Energy consumption was reduced by 10% due to the system upgrade.
The IoT ONE Radar indicates the mix of hardware, software and services used in an IoT solution.
Hardware that enables dual directional communication for data collection and control message delivery. Examples include cellular, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi.
Sensors transform energy into electrical data; they are the eyes and ears of IoT. Actuators transform electrical data into energy; they are the muscle of IoT.
Products used by end users that contain IoT technologies. Examples include enabled equipment, wearables, hand-held scanners, and tracking devices.
Horizontal applications are standardized (e.g., asset tracking). Vertical applications are tailored to specific needs (e.g., delivery fleet management).
System integrators link IoT component subsystems, customize solutions, and ensure that IoT systems communicate with existing operational systems.
IoT data management consultancies help to make sense of big data, decide which data to maintain and for how long, and troubleshoot IT issues.
