Fully Automated Identification for Alping Italia
Fully Automated Identification for Alping Italia
Full material traceability ensures process reliability in production and it is a major building block for the economic success of manufacturing companies. To optimise production management, automated identification systems with tags which have barcodes printed on them are now increasingly used in production facilities and warehouses. This ensures full control from the receipt of raw materials to the finishing of the products and shipping. The steel industry in particular, is a difficult environment and the labels and tags that ensure full material traceability have to withstand extreme conditions. Raw materials and products have rough surfaces. In addition, the data carriers are exposed to enormous heat and heavy soiling. And last but not least, the whole identification process always has to be carried out under time pressure.

Smart Technology Brings the Heat to Optimize Steam Heating Systems
Smart Technology Brings the Heat to Optimize Steam Heating Systems
Industrial facilities, municipalities, hospitals and universities nationwide depend upon steam carried through pipes to heat their buildings. Unfortunately, the reliability of steam systems also leads to them being forgotten or poorly maintained until it’s too late, resulting in uninsulated distribution components and faulty steam traps (leaks) that can lose hundreds or even thousands of dollars a day in wasted energy. That’s why Embedded Energy Technology (EET) teamed up with Thermaxx Jackets to create a next-generation solution for steam pipe insulation. They wanted to develop a product that not only insulated pipes, but also used technology monitor the system for leaks and heat loss. Ideally this solution would install in minutes, have no wires, and avoid the need for costly construction.

Tray Identification at the Kennametal Drill Plant
Tray Identification at the Kennametal Drill Plant
Kennametal's high quality drill bits along with their associated aluminium trays where they are arranged go through a thorough cleaning process involving ultrasound, damp and vacuum cleaning processes after machining is performed. Before entering this washing facility, the order documents and the tray are separated and then re-allocated after cleaning. A work step that involves a risk as analyses have shown that, on occasion, trays and order documents were allocated incorrectly after cleaning. Drills went through coating processes that were supposed to be used for a different order. Hence, there was a need to eliminate mix-ups altogether.

InterDigital Remote Augmentation In Multipoint Telepresence
InterDigital Remote Augmentation In Multipoint Telepresence
The ability to enrich remote live video by virtual information does not exist in standard teleconferencing systems yet, partly because transmitting real-time captured 3D information over network has some disadvantages. For example, bandwidth requirements of 3D information are much higher than normal video. Also, in order to generate an accurate 3D representation, the environment must be captured from several directions. Normally, users are accustomed to pointing a video camera so that it captures only those parts of the environment that the user wants to show to remote participants of the video conference.

Car Maintenance Application
Car Maintenance Application
Maintenance systems make modern aircraft fault-tolerant. They provide a remote diagnosis of existing faults and capabilities. But why aren’t vehicles packed with such descriptive analytics maintenance? That is exactly what we wondered right before coming up with the idea of Car Maintenance. Our first motive to experiment with Car Maintenance application was safety considerations for our vehicles, and the second - exercising our skills in the Internet of Things (IoT) software development.Eliftech_Car-Maintenance_app_1.jpgThe essence of Car Maintenance is instant data collecting, data analysis and data gathering about the current condition of the vehicle to prevent it from breaking down. Descriptive analytics enable us to create a summary of historical data related to a vehicle's condition. The collected data could be used further for sharing with a mechanic. The analytical approach helps a repair master make smarter decisions, solve problems and improve outcomes. We track speed, location, engine rotation, the temperature of the important components of the car and dozens of other parameters that are supported by the vehicle. We collect data on a server, and it is also sent to a web application where you can review both the current condition of the connected car and the historical data.
